At one point Gary looks out in the audience and asks “Are we videotaping this?”. That he was unaware of me filming him at point blank range beneath his feet is good. Invisible filmmakers are unobtrusive. In an ideal situation, the camera makes all the choices. I’m a slave to the lens.

Part 1 from Gary Vaynerchuk’s “The Future of Communities” at the Future of Web Apps Conference in Miami 2008. I hadn’t considered putting it online at the time because the camera was not in an ideal spot. Gary moved a lot and always ignored the camera. Looking at it a year later I realize that this is a glimpse of Gary that we don’t normally see on the Wine Library.
In February of 2008 Gary prophecised Obama’s triumph due to community organizing: “To be a success you’ve got to have a community leader”.
